Wipro's Cloud Infrastructure & Security Services (CISS) business unit is one of the largest DevOps and cloud operations practices in Indian services. The Junior DevOps Engineer role is Wipro's direct-entry track for fresher and near-fresher graduates with a specific interest in DevOps tooling, CI/CD, containers and cloud operations, and is distinct from the general Project Engineer role that the firm recruits for at volume.
Hiring into the role happens two ways. The first path is the standard Wipro Elite campus hiring process — graduates who clear the aptitude, coding, and English assessment, and who score strongly on the technical preference round, can be streamed into the DevOps track. The second, increasingly common path is lateral hiring of six-to-twenty-four-month-experienced engineers who have completed an intensive DevOps training program (Cloudsoft alumni are hired into this stream regularly) and can demonstrate fundamental proficiency in at least three of the core tools — Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible. Wipro's talent acquisition team interviews against a fundamentals-first rubric, not a Big Tech leetcode-hard rubric, so a candidate who has done the hands-on work will clear the loop.
Once hired, freshers attend the eight-week Wipro Velocity bootcamp at the Pune or Sarjapur campus. Velocity is Wipro's dedicated cloud-and-DevOps training pipeline — denser than the older Pragati fresher program but narrower in scope. The curriculum covers Linux system administration, Git workflows, shell and Python scripting, Docker container fundamentals, Kubernetes basics (with hands-on lab time on a cloud-provisioned cluster), Jenkins and GitLab CI pipeline authoring, Ansible configuration management, Terraform infrastructure-as-code, and an introduction to AWS and Azure fundamentals through the AWS Cloud Practitioner and AZ-900 certifications. The bootcamp is hands-on throughout — there is no "watch-and-pass" path.
Post-Velocity, allocation to a client engagement takes roughly two to four weeks. Wipro's DevOps client portfolio is genuinely diverse — major banks like BNY Mellon, HSBC and Deutsche Bank; insurance carriers like Prudential and AIG; healthcare like Pfizer and Boehringer Ingelheim; retailers like Marks & Spencer and Walmart; and a long tail of enterprise accounts where Wipro runs the cloud and DevOps tooling. The project types break roughly into three buckets: net-new cloud migration programs (where the DevOps team is helping a client lift workloads from on-premise into AWS or Azure), platform engineering programs (where the team is building internal developer platforms with Jenkins, Bitbucket, Artifactory and Kubernetes for the client's own engineers), and steady-state managed services (where the DevOps team is operating an existing pipeline and cluster estate on behalf of the client).
The daily work at a Junior DevOps Engineer grade is scaffolded but real. For the first six months you pair with a senior engineer on JIRA-tracked tasks, take on build-pipeline fixes, container-image updates, Ansible patch-cycle runs, and monitoring-alert triage under review. By month nine most fresher DevOps engineers have their own dedicated stream of work — perhaps owning all Jenkins pipeline changes for a specific micro-service, or managing the Terraform module catalogue for a particular environment. By month twelve to eighteen, Wipro expects you to be running changes end-to-end, contributing to the team's knowledge-base, and beginning to mentor the next batch of fresher joiners.
On compensation and benefits Wipro is squarely in the Indian-services-firm market rate — base salary in the four-to-eight-lakh band depending on fresher versus lateral-six-month entry, variable pay linked to utilisation and project CSAT, and the standard benefits package (medical self + family, provident fund, gratuity). The firm pays for two industry certifications a year — AWS Solutions Architect Associate and the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) are both common year-one picks — and sponsors access to the Topcoder and Linux Foundation learning platforms. Promotion from Junior Engineer to Engineer typically happens at month eighteen, Senior Engineer at year four, and Technical Lead at year six to seven. As with any Indian services firm, the real compensation jump is usually the external one at the two-to-three-year mark — at that point a Wipro-trained DevOps engineer with stacked certifications is a very marketable hire into every GCC and product company.
One Wipro-specific differentiator worth highlighting is the firm's investment in internal engineering platforms. Responsibilities

Requirements & qualifications
B.E / B.Tech / MCA / M.Sc (CS/IT) — 2024, 2025, 2026 passouts for fresher route. OR 6-24 months experience + demonstrable hands-on training in Docker / K8s / Jenkins / Terraform for lateral route. Linux + Git + one scripting language. Strong English for client interaction.
