Flipkart's Site Reliability Engineering organisation runs one of the most demanding production environments in Indian tech. During the Big Billion Days (BBD) flagship sale — Flipkart's annual October event — the platform handles peaks that would crater most commercial software: millions of concurrent shoppers, tens of thousands of orders per minute, cache fan-out at astronomical rates, supply-chain integrations across thousands of sellers, and a customer-experience expectation that is zero-downtime-or-bust. Keeping that running is what the SRE organisation does, and the Graduate SRE role is Flipkart's dedicated graduate-to-SRE entry-point.

Flipkart recruits into the role from a defined pool: engineering graduates from the top India campuses (IITs, NITs, IIITs, BITS, a handful of strong private schools) and masters candidates from IISc and equivalent. The interview loop is five to six rounds: two coding rounds (leetcode-medium to leetcode-hard, Python / Go / Java preferred), a system-design round (typically on a real Flipkart-adjacent system like a distributed cache, a message broker, or a consistent-hashing load balancer), a Linux + debugging deep-dive, one incident-scenario round where you walk through how you would triage a realistic production issue, and a hiring-manager / behavioural round focused on ownership, rigour and growth. The bar is genuinely high — Flipkart's SRE org is one of the most selective engineering hires in India.

Onboarding runs four to five weeks at the Flipkart Bellandur or Embassy Tech Village campus. The internal Reliability Academy covers the firm's stack in depth: GCP as the primary cloud with some on-premise retention, Kubernetes (self-managed and GKE) for container orchestration, Kafka for event streaming at very high volume, Redis and Aerospike for caching, multiple relational and NoSQL databases, Terraform and Spinnaker for delivery automation, and the firm's internal observability stack built on Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, Jaeger and a custom logs pipeline. Academy also covers Flipkart's incident-management playbook — the firm runs one of the most mature Incident Commander-led response processes in Indian tech — and introduces chaos engineering via the internal Gremlin-derived tooling.

Post-Academy you are allocated to a platform team. Flipkart's SRE model is embedded — rather than a central SRE pool, the firm has dedicated reliability engineers inside the core product teams: Checkout, Search, Catalog, Supply Chain, Fulfilment, Ads, F1 (the Flipkart Mobile team), and the Platform/Infra team that runs the internal developer platform. Depending on allocation the work shape varies — a Checkout SRE spends most of their time on latency and transactional integrity; a Search SRE deals with index-rebuild operations and search-quality SLOs; a Supply Chain SRE works closely with warehouse integrations and the fulfilment machinery. All tracks share the same core elements: on-call rotation, SLO ownership, capacity planning, incident response, and non-trivial engineering contributions to the shared reliability toolchain.

The daily work is genuinely engineering-heavy. Flipkart's SRE job description is closer to the Google SRE book than to a traditional operations role. You will spend substantial time writing production code — internal services that power the firm's chaos-engineering platform, capacity-forecasting tools, runbook automation, and self-healing agents. You will also run production incidents, take part in postmortems, own service-level objectives end-to-end, and contribute to the firm's internal reliability-engineering guild. During the two months leading up to BBD the org goes into a high-intensity preparation mode — game-day drills, load tests at five-to-ten-times normal peak, capacity buyout and contingency planning. It is the single best production-engineering apprenticeship available to a new graduate in India.

Compensation is correspondingly strong. Flipkart pays at or above market for graduate engineering roles in Bengaluru — base salary in the eighteen-to-twenty-eight-lakh band, a signing bonus, Walmart (FLipkart's parent) stock vesting over four years, a performance bonus that can add 15-25% to total compensation, and genuinely excellent benefits: comprehensive medical cover for self + family + parents; fertility, adoption and surrogacy support; twelve weeks of paid parental leave for all parents; free meals on campus; a ₹50K annual wellness benefit; and a ₹75K annual learning wallet. Responsibilities

Complete 4-5 week Reliability Academy. Shadow primary on-call from week 3, join rotation by month 4. Own one production service's SLOs and runbook by month 9. Write production code in Python / Go for reliability tooling. Participate in postmortems and BBD game-day drills. Pair with senior engineers on capacity reviews and incident response.

Requirements & qualifications

B.E / B.Tech / M.Tech / M.Sc (CS/IT) from top engineering campuses. 2024, 2025, 2026 passouts. Strong DSA (leetcode-medium to leetcode-hard). Distributed-systems fundamentals (consensus, consistent hashing, replication). Linux and networking depth. Programming in Python / Go / Java (production-grade).

Why this role in 2026

Flipkart SRE is the most demanding and most rewarding graduate SRE role in Indian tech. Nowhere else will a new engineer touch production at this scale on this stack with this much ownership in their first two years.

Practise incident-triage narratives. System-design at non-trivial scale (design a consistent-hashing cache; design a message broker).
