About the role

Infosys Mysuru's Global Education Centre runs India's largest engineering-training program — DevOps-stream fresher trainees spend 12 weeks at the GEC learning Linux, CI/CD, containers and IaC before allocation to cloud and DevOps client engagements.

Infosys's Global Education Centre (GEC) in Mysuru is the single largest corporate training campus in the world — 337 acres, 400 classrooms, dormitories for over 10,000 trainees at a time. For fresh graduates entering Indian tech, fourteen to sixteen weeks at GEC is a genuine rite of passage, and for those allocated to the DevOps engineering stream, it is one of the most structured entry-level DevOps training programs available anywhere in the industry. Hiring into the role happens through the standard Infosys campus drive and InfyTQ online platform — candidates who clear the aptitude + coding + English assessments and express a preference for DevOps / Cloud / Infrastructure during onboarding are routed into the DevOps stream at GEC. Training begins with foundation: two weeks of Linux system administration (file systems, processes, permissions, systemd, networking, package management), one week of Git and version-control workflows, one week of shell scripting, and one week of Python basics. From there the curriculum becomes role-specific: three weeks on Jenkins and CI/CD pipeline design, two weeks on Docker and container fundamentals, two weeks on Kubernetes (with hands-on kubeadm and kubectl work against a GEC-provisioned lab cluster), one week on Ansible configuration management, one week on Terraform infrastructure-as-code, and a final two-week capstone where you take a reference application from Git commit to Kubernetes-deployed rolling update, with full monitoring via Prometheus and Grafana.

The DevOps stream at GEC is a working meritocracy. Performance is measured weekly through lab tests, scenario evaluations and end-of-stream exams, and trainees who consistently score above the cohort's 75th percentile get first pick of client allocations. The allocation itself determines a lot of your early career — Infosys's cloud and DevOps practice includes marquee clients like Apple, Verizon, Daimler, Allianz, Aetna and every major US financial institution, and a high-performing trainee who is allocated to a greenfield cloud-migration engagement at a major bank can be doing production-grade Kubernetes work within six months of joining. A trainee allocated to a steady-state operations bench at a slower client will have a quieter first year — technically solid, but with less accelerated exposure.

Once allocated, the daily work depends on the engagement. For a cloud-migration project, you might be building Jenkins pipelines that CI/CD a .NET or Spring Boot application from Bitbucket to AWS ECS or EKS, writing Terraform modules for the target-state infrastructure, and sitting in daily client standups alongside senior engineers. For a steady-state operations account, you would be monitoring the existing pipeline estate, handling pipeline failures, running Ansible playbooks for patch cycles, and gradually taking on change-request ownership. Both shapes are valid entry points; the former is faster-growth, the latter is lower-stress.

Infosys's compensation for fresher DevOps trainees is standard Indian services-firm market rate — base salary in the four to six lakh band, variable pay tied to project utilisation and client CSAT, and a solid benefits package covering medical insurance for self and immediate family, provident fund, gratuity, hostel and transport during GEC training, and ongoing reimbursement for industry certifications (Infosys pays for two vouchers per calendar year — most fresher DevOps engineers stack AWS Cloud Practitioner, the CKAD or CKA Kubernetes certification, and a HashiCorp Terraform Associate within the first two years).

The realistic trajectory for a DevOps trainee at Infosys is this: eighteen months to promotion into the Systems Engineer grade (a ~20% compensation bump), three years to Technology Analyst, five years to Technology Lead. The more consequential pivot is the external one: at the two-year mark, a DevOps engineer who has stacked CKA + AWS SAA + a Terraform certification, has real production pipeline experience, and can speak confidently about blue-green deployments and pod-level resource management, is a market-rate hire at every Indian product company, every GCC captive, and every cloud-native startup in the country — often at a 60-80% compensation uplift relative to their Infosys role.

To maximise the value of the first two years, focus on three things. First, invest aggressively in certifications — the firm pays for them, and each one materially compounds your market value. Second, volunteer for work that is outside your comfort zone — request allocation to a greenfield migration or a platform-engineering engagement rather than a steady-state bench. Third, make genuine connections with senior engineers during GEC and on your project — the internal Infosys alumni network is enormous and the quickest path out of services into product engineering is a warm introduction from someone who has already made the jump. Infosys freshers who treat their first two years as a deliberate engineering apprenticeship, rather than just a waiting room for external offers, consistently come out with the strongest credentials and the best next-role options.

Responsibilities

Complete 14-16 week GEC DevOps stream training with passing scores. Clear AWS Cloud Practitioner during training. Pair on assigned client project tickets from week 1 post-GEC. Author Jenkins pipelines, Terraform modules and Ansible playbooks under senior review. Take part in client daily standups. Join the team on-call rotation after 90 days.

Requirements & qualifications

B.E / B.Tech / MCA / M.Sc (CS/IT). 2024, 2025, 2026 passouts. Cleared Infosys InfyTQ / campus assessment. Strong aptitude + basic programming (any language). CS fundamentals. English communication fit for client-facing work. Willingness to attend GEC Mysuru for 14-16 weeks.
