About the role

TCS's TRCP (Technology Readiness Cloud Program) hires fresh graduates directly into the AWS delivery tower. Six weeks of onboarding, AWS Cloud Practitioner certification paid, then allocation to real client projects at TCS's global customers.

TCS is the single largest recruiter of cloud engineers in India — the firm trains and allocates thousands of graduates every year into its AWS, Azure and Google Cloud practices. The Associate Cloud Engineer (AWS track) is a direct-entry role for 2025 and 2026 graduates who cleared the TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) or the TCS Ninja / Digital hiring pool, and who have expressed AWS as their primary technology preference during onboarding.

Once you join, the first six to eight weeks are spent at Kolkata's TCS Learning Campus or the Trivandrum cloud practice centre. The cloud bootcamp runs twice a month: mornings are classroom theory on IAM, EC2, VPC, S3, ELB, RDS, Lambda and the Well-Architected pillars; afternoons are hands-on AWS lab work against a sandbox account TCS provides per trainee. You will write CloudFormation templates, stand up a three-tier reference architecture, configure backup and recovery, set up CloudWatch alarms and build a small Lambda + API Gateway service. By the end of the bootcamp TCS sponsors the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner voucher, and most trainees clear it in the first attempt.

After certification you are allocated to a client project. TCS's AWS client portfolio is genuinely broad: retail banks like Deutsche Bank, Citi and HSBC, insurance carriers like Prudential and AIG, healthcare players like Walgreens and CVS, airlines like British Airways and Air France-KLM, and product-company captives. Depending on where you get allocated, the work ranges from greenfield cloud migration projects (lifting on-premise Java / .NET apps into AWS) to managed-services operations (monitoring, patching, incident response on a 24×7 production estate). Both paths have merit — migration projects give you exposure to architecture and decision-making, operations projects give you incident-handling muscle and the chance to become production-grade fast.

Day-to-day work looks like this. In the morning you pick up JIRA tickets assigned to you from the previous day — maybe a CloudWatch alarm for a disk-full EC2 instance, a request to provision a new S3 bucket with the correct tags and encryption, or a deploy request going through the team's Jenkins pipeline. You pair with a senior engineer for the first ninety days, and by month four most freshers are handling tickets independently and taking part in the on-call rotation. You will also contribute to internal knowledge-base articles, update CloudFormation templates, and occasionally present a change to the client's Change Advisory Board (CAB).

The progression path inside TCS is well-defined and calendar-based. As Associate (Band C3) you are expected to deliver to spec and pass the annual AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification within eighteen months — TCS pays for this too. Promotion to Cloud Engineer (C3A) typically happens at the two-year mark, IT Analyst (C4) around year four, and Senior IT Analyst (C4A) around year six. The bigger opportunity is lateral: after two years with AWS projects on your resume, the market rate for you in a Bengaluru product company or a GCC is significantly higher than your internal TCS compensation, and TCS alumni are the single most common hire across Indian cloud and DevOps teams.

TCS's engineering culture is what you make of it. It is genuinely large and occasionally bureaucratic, but freshers who invest in certifications, volunteer for evening knowledge-sharing sessions at the Cloud CoE, and engage with the internal iEvolve learning platform often find the rate of technical growth is surprisingly high. The real test is not whether TCS will teach you AWS — it will — but whether you take the ecosystem available to you seriously. Those who do leave in two years as capable cloud engineers with market options. Those who coast leave still as Associate Cloud Engineers.

On the practical side, the location piece is worth thinking about. TCS will allocate you based on business need, but you can express a preference during onboarding and most of the time the firm honours it where projects allow. The main AWS delivery centres are Hyderabad (Deccan Park), Bengaluru (Whitefield and Outer Ring Road), Pune (Hinjawadi), Chennai (Siruseri) and Kolkata (Rajarhat). Hyderabad is the largest AWS delivery footprint in the company and arguably the best single location for a fresher who wants maximum exposure — most AWS projects route through Hyderabad first. Bengaluru has the strongest external market if you plan to leave TCS at the two-year mark, since the city's product-company density is unmatched. Pune and Chennai are slightly quieter but offer substantially lower cost of living and less commute stress, which matters for your first two years when base salary is still modest.

Responsibilities

Complete TCS Cloud Bootcamp and AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. Pair on client project tickets for first 90 days. Handle JIRA-tracked cloud tickets — provisioning, monitoring, backup restores, access requests. Join the team's on-call rotation after probation. Author CloudFormation templates and update existing IaC. Contribute to internal knowledge base and CoE artifacts. Maintain compliance with TCS and client security baselines.

Requirements & qualifications

B.E / B.Tech / MCA / M.Sc (2024, 2025, 2026 passouts). Cleared TCS NQT / Ninja / Digital hiring rounds. CS / IT / ECE / EEE backgrounds preferred but not mandatory. Basic Linux command-line comfort. Any programming language — C, Java, Python. Strong English communication. Willingness to relocate within TCS's delivery centres.

Why this role in 2026

TCS is the most common first-job in Indian tech for a reason — the bootcamp investment is substantial, the AWS exposure is real, and the two-year résumé credibility translates directly into product-company offers.

Application tips

Apply through the TCS Next Step portal. If you have already cleared NQT, email the tcs.careers@tcs.com inbox with your preferred track as 'AWS / Cloud Engineering'. List any academic cloud projects, even free-tier experiments, on your resume.

Interview preparation

TCS NQT online test (aptitude + verbal + programming). Technical interview focusing on fundamentals — OS, DBMS, networking, basic programming. Managerial + HR rounds are scenario-based and behavioural. Cloud-specific knowledge is not expected pre-offer — that gets trained in bootcamp.

Career growth

Associate (C3) → Cloud Engineer (C3A, ~2 yrs) → IT Analyst (C4, ~4 yrs) → Senior IT Analyst (C4A, ~6 yrs). Certification milestones drive most early progression.

Company & benefits

Paid AWS certification vouchers, medical insurance for self + dependents, relocation support, gratuity, provident fund, bonus linked to CSAT + utilisation, optional higher-education support, and the iEvolve learning platform.
