Responsibilities

Build and operate highly-available systems with Kubernetes and Docker for Amgen's biopharmaceutical digital platforms — services that support research, manufacturing and commercial functions where reliability and data integrity carry regulatory weight. Implement infrastructure-as-code with Terraform across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure and GCP), authoring reusable, validated modules so that teams can stand up compliant environments from a single template. Establish observability and proactive reliability engineering — Prometheus / Grafana and cloud-native monitoring, meaningful SLIs and SLOs, alerting tuned so that patient- or quality-impacting incidents escalate within minutes while noise is suppressed. Own incident management end to end: on-call rotation, rapid triage, blameless post-incident reviews, and automation of remediation so recurring issues are engineered away rather than re-fought. Ensure security, compliance and performance in a regulated environment — GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP-5 and comparable frameworks — producing the change records, validation artefacts and audit trails that survive inspection, and treating documentation as code wherever possible. Drive disaster-recovery and business-continuity engineering: multi-region failover, tested point-in-time restore, and resilience patterns proven through regular game-days rather than assumed. Collaborate on cloud migrations and modern-architecture adoption — moving legacy workloads to cloud-native, containerised designs without compromising the validated state that regulated systems require. Reduce toil through automation and self-service tooling, and partner with development and quality teams to shift reliability and compliance left into design and CI. Mentor SREs and graduate engineers, run knowledge-sharing sessions on Kubernetes, Terraform and reliability practice, and represent the Hyderabad SRE team in global architecture and reliability forums.

Requirements & qualifications

6+ years in Site Reliability Engineering / DevOps with strong, hands-on production Kubernetes and container (Docker) experience. Terraform across at least one — ideally two or three — of AWS, Azure and GCP: reusable modules, remote state per environment, plan reviews for cost and security. Observability and SRE fundamentals: Prometheus / Grafana (or cloud-native equivalents), SLIs / SLOs, error budgets, on-call discipline, and blameless post-mortems. Strong scripting / programming, Python preferred, for reliability tooling and automation. Working understanding of regulated software environments — GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP-5, SOX or HIPAA — and the validation and change-control implications they bring. Disaster-recovery and high-availability design experience (multi-region, failover, tested restores). Excellent written communication — you will author change records and validation artefacts read by auditors and regulators. Life-sciences / pharma or other regulated-industry experience is a strong plus. Bachelor's or higher in CS / Engineering or a numerate science; cloud and Kubernetes certifications valued.

Why this role in 2026

Amgen is a leading global biotechnology company, and its Hyderabad capability centre is one of its principal engineering hubs. A Senior SRE III seat here is a rare blend — multi-cloud Kubernetes and Terraform reliability engineering combined with GxP-grade regulated-software discipline — a combination that is scarce in the market and tends to leverage into senior platform or SRE-leadership roles in life sciences or pharma-tech within a few years. The work is meaningful (it supports getting medicines to patients reliably), the compensation is strong, and the regulated rigour builds genuinely differentiated experience.

Application tips

Apply directly via the Amgen careers portal link below. Lead with concrete reliability outcomes (availability, MTTR, error-budget adherence) and multi-cloud Terraform scope, and make any GxP / validated-environment experience prominent — auditors, change records, IQ/OQ/PQ artefacts — even if your current role labels it differently. A polished follow-up to the recruiter on LinkedIn once your application is in helps.

Interview preparation

Expect five rounds: recruiter screen, a Python + Kubernetes + cloud technical screen, a deeper technical loop (Terraform / system design + an incident or reliability scenario), a Quality / Regulatory partner round on validation discipline, and a values round with a leader. Practice STAR stories around incidents you owned end to end, audit findings you closed, and disaster-recovery exercises you ran; brush up on SLO design, multi-region failover and GxP change-control basics.

Career growth

Inside Amgen: SRE III → Senior / Principal SRE → SRE Manager or Platform Architect. Engineers also rotate into the Manufacturing IT, Clinical Data Sciences or security-engineering platform teams. Regulated multi-cloud SRE experience is a strong differentiator across life sciences and beyond.

Company & benefits

INR 26-46 LPA fixed band plus target bonus (market-rate estimate; confirmed at offer). Amgen restricted-stock eligibility for senior individual contributors. Comprehensive private medical for self + family + parents. Hybrid working in Hyderabad. Sponsored cloud / Kubernetes certifications.
